November 21st - December 25th 2009 Highland Interact Alternative Gift Card sales will be taking place during the Christmas Season. They will start again during Fiesta at the Florence Filberg on Saturday November 21, 2009.

Black Rose Tattoo and Piercing Studio will be donating 10% of their income from tattoos between June 30 and July, 11 2009. Now the ink you have always wanted can do some good around the world. What a great start to your new art.

March 6th, 2009 - Highland Secondary School's International Dinner and Fundraiser. This outstanding event will be auctioning off the original artwork from the Alternate Gift Cards. January 31st, 2009 - Chamber of Commerce Annual Community Awards Night. - This year Connecting With Kenya is the title sponsor of the Chamber of Commerce Awards night thanks to a significant donation by zactv.com - Volunteers will be taking care of the coat check, selling alternate gift cards, and most importantly answering questions about the project. Zac Whyte will also be making a presentation near the close of the evening.

February 7th, 2009 - World Community Film Festival Youth Forum. Connecting With Kenya will be presenting at the Youth Forum this year. The whole event is geared to engage and activate youth to take action against issues that affect our global community. The event runs all day and tickets are three dollars. February 14th, 2009 - Athletes United Sports & Fitness Symposium. All day at Bear Mountain Resort. Silent Auction items from David Beckham, Trevor Linden, and professional athletes across North America. Read some press from the event by clicking here.

January 23rd, 2009 - Barry minus Harry. Teacher Barry Walker will shave his legendary beard at lunchtime if Mark Isfeld students raise $1000 for Connecting With Kenya. Will they be able to raise the money in time? Mr. Walker's wife has never seen him without a beard before - this will be good.

January 16th, 2009 - Highland, Vanier and Mark Isfeld School Improv Show will donate $2 from each $5 ticket to Connecting With Kenya. This dynamic event will connect the drama departments of Comox Valley Highschools. It all happens at 7pm in the Highland School Theater. CWK Alternate Gift Cards and World Community Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolate will also be on sale at this event.

Connecting With Kenya and Highland School's Senior Art Class are happy to continue sales of the Alternative Gift Card program that will benefit Free The Children’s Adopt A Village program. In buying a card, you will assist in strengthening and developing an entire village. Community groups, businesses, and individuals like you who support Connecting with Kenya want to make a positive difference in their world. Make a difference with your family and friends. Instead of a present this holiday purchase a Connecting With Kenya Alternative Gift Card and take as stand against poverty by supporting education around the world.

Several denominations have been created so you can find the best alternate gift for someone that is special to you. Please note that there are no printed prices on the cards. Here are the descriptions that are inside each card.

$5 Card - Brick

You have just been bricked! You have also just made a positive difference in the world by helping the effort to eradicate poverty for the first time in global history. A percentage of profits from this card have been donated in your honour to buy a brick and build an entire school in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya through Free The Children. Thousands of children will now have the opportunity to receive an elementary education in a new school. You have helped make this possible.

 
$10 Card - Water

You have just made a positive difference in the world and helped Connecting with Kenya’s effort to eradicate poverty for the first time in global history. A percentage of profits from this card have been donated in your honour to implement a fresh water system in a village in Kenya through Free The Children. Clean water is a human right and vital to life. You have just helped bring clean water to thousands of people in Kenya.

 
$10 Card – Jumbo Brick Jumbo brick! You have just been jumbo bricked and you have made a positive difference in the world by helping Connecting With Kenya’s effort to eradicate poverty for the first time in global history. A percentage of profits from this card have been donated in your honour to buy a jumbo brick and build an entire school in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya through Free The Children. Thousands of children will now have the opportunity to receive elementary education in a new school. You have helped make this possible.
 
$10 Card – Animal & Alternate Income You have just made a positive difference in the world and helped the effort to eradicate poverty for the first time in global history. A percentage of profits from this card will been donated in your honour to buy animals like goats, chickens and cows for people in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya. The animals will create new sources of income and provide a healthy source of nutrition for an entire family. Goats and cows are a great source of milk, chickens lay eggs, and are all used for breeding. Thank you for making this possible.
